Abstract: Lung cancer and Prostate cancer are the leading causes of cancer related deaths worldwide. Standard chemotherapy protocols in cancer are of limited clinical benefit. Although there are many therapeutic newlinestrategies including chemotherapy to treat cancer, high systemic toxicity and drug resistance limit the successful outcomes in most cases. New strategies need to be developed to control and treat cancer. newlineOne such approach could be a combination of phytochemicals derived from dietary sources with conventional chemotherapeutic agents. The combination of agents will enhance efficacy and reduce toxicity to newlinenormal tissues. The human diet exerts a profound influence on the risk of cancer and there is currently considerable interest in the application of dietary phytochemicals, including isothiocyanates (ITCs), and bioflavonoids in cancer chemoprevention which is the long newlineterm pharmacologic management of cancer risk. Phytochemicals have been attributed to possess a number of pharmacological, antioxidant, chemopreventive and therapeutic properties. The present study focuses on the chemopreventive efficacy of dietary phytochemicals such as rutin, allylisothiocyanate (AITC), benzylisothiocyanate (BITC), newlinephenethylisothiocyanate (PEITC) singly and in combination with a conventional chemotherapeutic drug Etoposide on human cancer cell lines such as A-549, N-460, and PC-3 cells.
