Abstract: | Due to constant search for substrate or better remedies many of the synthetic organic compounds have become important drugs. Heterocyclic compounds are considered as the backbone of medicinal chemistry. Structure of heterocyclic compounds with different groups and presence of different hetero atoms was expected to enhance the different activities. newlineHeterocyclic compounds have been found to possess antibacterial, antifungal, antioxidant, analgesic, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory, antitumor, anticonvulsant, antiviral, antituberculotic, nematicidal, anti-HIV, antimycobacterial, antidiabetic, antidepressant, antipyretic, anti-fertile, antiulcer, antifeedant, antihypnotic and sedative activities. newlineVery few reports are available for synthesis and biological evaluation of heterocyclic compounds starting from ketimines. newlineOBJECTIVES newlineAttempt has been made to synthesize sulphur, oxygen and nitrogen containing heterocyclic compounds from carbonyl and amine functional groups and to study their biological activity. newlinePRESENT WORK newlineThe thesis is divided into six chapters. newlineChapter-1:- Introduction newlineThis is an introductory chapter which explains the importance of heterocyclic compounds. Further this chapter deals with overall research plan. newlineAbstract newlineBorgaonkar V. V., Ph.D. Thesis, 2016, srtmun. iv newlineChapter-2 newlineChapter-2 is divided in to two parts. Part-I includes synthesis of newlineketimines and part-II includes synthesis of bis-ketimines. newlinePart I:- Synthesis of ketimines newlineKetimines was known to possess a wide range of biological and newlinepharmacological activities. In recent years they gained significant interest in newlinethe area of drug research and development. They have been found to exhibit newlineimportant properties such as antibacterial, antifungal, anti-inflammatory, newlineanticonvulsant, antiviral and anticancer. A literature survey reveals that much newlinework was done on the synthesis of imines from the aldehydic carbonyl source newlinebut very few attempts were made when precursors are keto carbonyls. newlineIn present study several ketimines were synthesized from substituted |
