A Geographical Analysis of Socio Economic Transformation In Solapur District

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the socio-economic newlinetransformation and identifies socio-economic factors that influence newlinetransformation in Solapur district. In economic factors basically economic newlineactivities of man plays vital role in regional disparities. Human newlinedevelopment and improvement in the quality of life have always remained newlineon the focus of all disciplines and principal objective of various planning. newlineStudy regarding the socio-economic transformation of any region provides newlinethe information about the imbalances in the socio-economic development newlinewith their various types of causes. Hence such types of study is helpful in newlinethe development planning process in the region of researchers. newlineIndia is facing various types of problems including economic sector newlineas well as social sector. Solapur district is the one of the drought prone area newlinein western Maharashtra which has highest number of sugar factories in the newlinestate, but due to the rain shadow zone, uneven topography, soils, climatic newlinecondition and irrigational facilities this district facing some problems in newlinevarious sectors in this district. The physical and socio-economic newlineenvironment of the area has a great bearing on spatial distribution of newlineregional disparities in this district. The central part of this region comes newlineunder the Bhima and the Sina basin which is now favourable for the fruit newlineand food crops. The economy of this region is mainly based on agriculture. newlineOut of total population 64.95 percent working population engaged in newlineprimary economic activities, 22.38 percent in secondary economic newlineactivities, 8.82 percent in tertiary economic activities and 3.85 percent in newlinequaternary economic activities in the year 2013-14. There is some changes newlinein cropping pattern in study region, area under cereals and oilseeds is newlinedecreased by 6.49 percent and 8.91 percent respectively. Secondary newlinexix newlineeconomic activities also one of the major contribution in economy of the region which includes 22.38 percent of working population.
