Development of Multidimensional Model for Data Warehouse and Assessment of its Quality

Abstract

A Data Warehouse (DW) provides many years of historical information for decision making process and forms the central body of most of the current decisional systems. To facilitate complex analysis and visualization, information is designed in the form of multidimensional model. Multidimensional data models have been widely accepted as the foundation for data warehouses, databases and online analytical processing applications which provide multidimensional view of data. Nowadays, the trend in data modeling is the object oriented paradigm, because it is closer to the user conception. Object oriented modeling also supports complex and advanced data structures. Object oriented multidimensional models proposed by different authors have considered different multidimensional model properties (such as facts, dimensions, dimension hierarchies (multiple hierarchies, alternate hierarchies, shared hierarchies, non strict hierarchies), many-to-many relationships between facts and dimensions etc.) at conceptual level.
