Abstract: | In recent years, the lanthanide complexes have gained an enormous attention not only newlinefor their chemistry but also for their high application potential in optoelectronics. Extensive research on the luminescent lanthanide complexes are now a days in progress, targeting various applications, such as cutting edge optoelectronic devices like OLED displays, NIR upconversion devices, assays in biomedical imaging, luminescence devices, ionic conductors and sensors. The main objective of the present research work is the quest of lanthanide emission sensitization with ionizable ligands, optical properties and to understand the mechanism of lanthanide sensitization. newlineLanthanide (III) ions have long been known to emit light after absorbing photons of energy corresponding to direct absorption by the metal ion. The emission is more efficient in the presence of organic ligands coordinated to the metal ion, which absorb the photons corresponding to ligand transitions and transfer energy from the ligand excited state to the emissive Ln(III) state. This is now accepted as the main mode of sensitization and widely referred to as antenna effect. In lieu of the above, the aim of thesis is to synthesize the lanthanide complexes with various nitrogen and oxygen donor ligands including pyridine derivatives, aromatic carboxylic acids. The optical properties of the complexes are discussed in detail with special emphasis on the photoluminescence emission spectroscopy of the complexes. newline |
