The thesis entitled Investigations on modeling transportation noise and passive newlinenoise control measures for its abatement is a comprehensive study focusing on various newlineaspects of modeling traffic noise and its control. The study presents a critical review of newlineprincipal traffic noise models developed and adopted in recent years in developed nations. newlineThe research work utilizes the experimental database gathered from noise monitoring newlineconducted at various sites in Delhi for developing a validated road traffic noise model. The newlineacoustical characterization of vehicles in terms of sound power level has been conducted for newlinedeveloping a comprehensive traffic noise model using the sound propagation algorithms. The newlineaccuracy of the model so developed is ascertained from the actual experimental database newlinegathered from noise monitoring conducted at various sites in the Delhi city. newlineThe research study also investigates the application of ARIMA and ANN newlinemethodology in time-series prediction of ambient noise levels. The application of ARIMA newlineand ANN approach in long-term and short-term time series prediction and forecasting of newlineambient noise levels for a sample site of Delhi city is demonstrated. As long term noise newlinemonitoring is quite cumbersome and expensive in Indian scenario, the study highlights the newlinerandom noise monitoring strategy based on statistical analysis considering a case study of newlinenoise monitoring data gathered from 35 sites of seven major cities in India under the pilot newlineNANMN project established by CPCB, India. newlineThe work pertaining to the passive noise control measures for transportation noise newlineabatement highlights the sound insulation properties of various window glazing developed newlineand tested in Reverberation chambers. The design considerations involved in development of newlinehighly insulative sandwich window glazing is discussed based on application of Taguchi newlinemethod and experimental investigations conducted in reverberation chambers.
