Abstract: Purpose The purpose of this study is to gain an understanding for voluntary turnover of newlinescientists employed in pharma research-technology and innovation-management organizations newlinesituated within the pharmaceutical industry. This research with a key focus on the group jobhopping newlinephenomenon of scientists emphasizes the existence and influence of cluster turnover newlineculture on scientists voluntary turnover decision. newlineDesign/methodology/approach This empirical investigation with a qualitative newlinephenomenological approach utilizes purposive sampling strategy with a semi-structured interview newlinemethod for data collection. Data is collected from varied sources with scientists as primary newlinestakeholders along with CMDs, R and D Chiefs, and HR-Practitioners as secondary stakeholders in newlinethe study. The qualitative data analysis (QDA) with the support of Atlas-ti as a tool for data newlinemanagement and analysis follows coding, categorizing, conceptualizing, and thematizing to yield newlinespecific experiential and principle broadened themes toward the topic of research and phenomenon newlineof study. The qualitative data analysis utilizes distinctive modes for the interpretation of the data newlinefindings viz. thematic, framework, and incident case analysis mode to have an explicit newlineunderstanding of the research outcomes to the readers. newlineFindings The research findings reveal that, scientists are deprived of personal growth and career newlineadvancement opportunities and have a continuous fear of losing job along with professional newlinestability. The acceptance of cluster turnover culture in the pharmaceutical industry actually newlineinduces an obligation for the scientists to move from one employer to another thereby, sustain in newlinethe profession and thus, is a case in point of turnover embedded in turnover. Data analysis affirms newlinethe influential role of cluster turnover culture in voluntary turnover of scientists.
