Abstract: | The present research was undertaken to understand the psychological dispositions of newlineengaged and disengaged associates and impact of leadership strategies on engagement. newlineA sample of 500 respondents was drawn from public and private sector organizations. newlineThis was further grouped into three levels of associates namely top level managers, newlinemiddle level managers and lower level managers in order to ensure representations from newlineall levels. The sample was drawn from five service organizations (100 samples from newlineeach). Out of 100 samples allotted to each service organization, 50 each were drawn newlinefrom public sector and private sector. Again, the 50 samples drawn from each sector, 5 newlineassociates were taken from top level management, 15 associates were taken from middle newlinelevel management and 30 associates were taken from lower level management. 16 newlinePersonality Factors Scale, Self-Esteem Inventory, Self-Efficacy Questionnaire, Emotional newlineCompetence Questionnaire, Locus of Control Scale, Employee Engagement Scale, and newlineLeadership Strategies Questionnaire were administered on all the respondents newlineindividually. A 5 X 2 X 3 factorial design with equal numbers was prepared involving five newlinetypes of service organizations such as higher education, health, tourism and hospitality, newlinebanking, and transport (aviation), two sectors (public sector and private sector), and newlinethree levels of management (top level management, middle level management, and entry newlinelevel management). Cross tabulation and Chi Square statistics was used to find the newlinenumber of associates in each engagement category. Multivariate Analysis of Variance newlinewas applied to map the differences in the psychological dispositions of engaged and newlinedisengaged associates. Stepwise Multiple Regression Analysis was applied to study the newlineimpact of leadership strategies on employee engagement. The results show that there was newlinesignificant difference in number of associates in engaged and disengaged category newlineaccording to age.
