Abstract: | The corrosion of iron and mild steel is a fundamental, academic and industrial newlineconcern that has received a considerable amount of attention. Mild steel is the most newlineimportant engineering and construction material in the World. It is used in every newlineaspect of our lives, from automotive manufacturing to construction products, from newlinesteel toecaps for protective footwear to refrigerators and washing machines. newlineAcid solutions are widely used in industry, the most important fields of application being newlineacid pickling, industrial acid cleaning, acid descaling and oil well acidizing. Sulphuric newlineacid is one of the most aggressive acids for corrosion of iron and its alloys. Further the newlinestudy has been carried out in acid medium as it dissolves the oxide film of metals and newlinealloys and provides the actual surface for studying the effect of these corrosion inhibitors. newlineThe use of inhibitors is one of the most practical methods for protection against newlinecorrosion. Many researchers have reported that the inhibiting effect mainly depends newlineon some physicochemical and electronic properties of the organic compounds which newlinerelated to its functional groups, steric effects, electronic density of donor atoms, and newlineand#960;-orbital character of donating electrons, and so on. The inhibiting mechanism is newlinegenerally explained by the formation of a physical and/or chemical adsorption film on newlinethese metal surfaces. It is well known that the organic compounds act as inhibitors newlinedue to delocalized and-electrons and due to the presence of hetero atoms such as newlinesulphur, nitrogen and oxygen. Nitrogen containing compounds of the triazole type newlinewere shown as effective inhibitors for many metals and alloys due to the presence of newlinethree nitrogen atoms in an aromatic ring. |
