Abstract: TITLE OF THE STUDY: A study to assess the effectiveness of yoga on academic motivation, adjustment behaviour and self-esteem among adolescents with low scholastic performance. THE OBJECTIVES OF THE STUDY: Assess the effectiveness of yoga on academic motivation, adjustment behavior and self-esteem among the adolescents with low scholastic performance., determine the relationship among academic motivation, adjustment behaviour and self-esteem of the adolescents with low scholastic performance.,elicit the association of the academic motivation, adjustment behaviour and self-esteem with the selected background variables . CONCEPTUAL FRAME WORK: In this study the investigator has applied Imogene King s Goal Attainment Theory. METHODS: The research design adopted the pretest posttest control group design. The study was conducted in selected schools at Chennai. The schools were assigned randomly to study and control groups. Stratified sampling technique was instituted to select the samples. The sample consisted of 300 adolescents both boys and girls with low academic performance and adjustment behaviour, 150 for the study group and 150 for the control group. Manipulation included the lecture cum demonstration on yoga for 5 school days and a booklet was issued followed by supervised practice on yoga for 89 days. The tool consisted of 4 parts - demographic variables, Academic Achievement Motivation Questionnaire (AAMQ), pre-quarterly test, quarterly examination marks and pre-half yearly test and half-yearly examination marks, Bells Adjustment Inventory (BAI) Indian adaptation , Self-Esteem Inventory (SEI) RESULTS: The study group showed a high level of improvement in the academic motivation with the mean score of 142.80 and SD 6.80 and in the control group the mean score was 95.32 with SD 7.18 during posttest II which is statistically highly significant at plt0.001. The result depicted that the adolescents of the study group had high improvement in the adjustment behavior than that of the control group which is statistically
