Abstract: | Mobile Ad-hoc Network (MANET) is an infra-structureless self configuring wireless network in which nodes communicate with each other through wireless multihop links. In MANET each node acts as both a host and a router. Due to very fast mobility of nodes, there will be drastic changes in the network topology and as the MANET is the future network to carry realtime multimedia data such as voice and video, it is very essential to have novel efficient routing protocols with better Quality of Service (QoS) mechanisms. Most on-demand routing protocols for mobile ad hoc networks discover and maintain only single route between source and destination nodes. This single route may be discarded due to the rapid mobility of nodes in MANET. Since each route discovery incurs high overhead and latency, the frequency of route discoveries must be kept low for on-demand protocols to be effective. Sending multiple route reply messages and establishing multiple paths in a single route discovery will reduce the routing overhead incurred in maintaining the connection between source and destination nodes. Multipath routing can increase scalability, end-to-end throughput and provide load balancing in MANET.Meta heuristic algorithms are novel optimization techniques when applied to routing algorithms yield better improvements in the overall network performance. The research work aims to develop three new efficient multipath routing algorithms based on the AODV routing algorithm with better QoS provisions. The research work proposes a novel Bee inspired Dynamic Multipath QoS Aware Reliable Reverse Routing algorithm (MQARR-AODV) based on AODV routing protocol with the incorporation of Artificial Bee Colony algorithm with modifications for effective routing. The performance of the above protocols is evaluated using the network simulator NS2. |
