Abstract: | Kodaikanal was founded by the American and European missionaries, Christian churches are newlineabundant in Kodaikanal. The Kodaikanal churches are helping the poor people of Kodaikanal. newlineThe churches are greatly contributing to the development of the communities in that region and also in the adjoining places. The churches are also playing a very significant role in promoting educational, social, economical and cultural activities. The churches give great awareness to the newlinepeople about their responsibilities in the society, and they discharge their duties through various forums and associations. In Tamilnadu many studies have been undertaken regarding churches newlineand their contributions towards the development of the society and economy. However, a little study is done on Kodaikanal churches . So, the researcher has undertaken Kodaikanal churches for her study. The economy of Kodaikanal is predominantly run by tourism. The town s infrastructure changes every year in preparation for the peak tourist season. Out of the total area of Kodaikanal taluk, 46,448.98 acres is under cultivation. But the agricultural operations are mostly dependent on rains and streams. From Kodaikanal both fruits and vegetables are important export crops. In addition different varieties of medicinal herbs are also exported. newline newline |
