Abstract: | SYNCHRONOUS OPTICAL NETWORK (SONET) AND SYNCHRONOUS DIGITAL HIERARCHY (SDH) ARE TIME-DIVISION MULTIPLEXING PROCESSES (TDMA) THAT ARE USED TO PROVIDE THE BANDWIDTH SERVICES FOR THE DATA USERS. HIGH SPEED DATA COMMUNICATION AND TELECOMMUNICATION TRAFFIC ARE HANDLED WITH THE USE OF TIME DIVISION TECHNOLOGY. FOR PROVIDING EFFICIENT HIGH CAPACITY NETWORKS REQUIRED BY TELECOMMUNICATION AND DATA SERVICES THE SONET/SDH STANDARD IS USED SINCE IT USES TDMA FOR BANDWIDTH SERVICES. HIGH BANDWIDTH APPLICATION AND SERVICE REQUIREMENTS ARE PROVIDED BY THE SONET/SDH NETWORK. BECAUSE OF THIS HIGH BANDWIDTH REQUIREMENT, FAULT TOLERANCE AND NETWORK RECOVERY ARE IMPORTANT ISSUES TO BE OPTIMIZED. DYNAMIC SERVICE PROVISIONING REQUIRES THE USE OF ON LINE ALGORITHMS AND IT COMPUTES THE EFFICIENT PATHS TO PROCEED DATA FLOW IN IT. THE ALLOCATION OF THE PATH DEPENDS ON THE SERVICE REQUESTS AND BANDWIDTH DEMAND. SONET/SDH NETWORKS MULTIPLEXING TECHNIQUES ARE USED FOR THIS PURPOSE TO ALLOCATE THE MEDIUM FOR DESIRED BANDWIDTH. THE SERVICE PROVIDERS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO FIND AUTOMATIC WAYS OF COMMISSIONING THE CHANNELS ASSOCIATED WITH THE SONET/SDH SINCE MANUAL PROVISIONING IS NOT POSSIBLE DUE TO HIGH BANDWIDTH REQUIREMENT. THE PROTECTION OF THE OPTICAL NETWORK IS IMPORTANT IN CASE OF FAILURE OF ANY PATH USED FOR DATA TRANSFER. THE DEDICATED AND SHARED PATH PROTECTION MECHANISMS HAVE BEEN USED FOR THE EFFICIENT USE OF THE SONET/SDH NETWORK. THIS THESIS MARKS AN ATTEMPT TO DEVELOP ALGORITHMS FOR MULTIPLEXING STRUCTURES TO PROVIDE THE EFFICIENT BANDWIDTH STRUCTURE .THE BASIC PARAMETERS LIKE PROBABILITY ERROR, QOS OF NETWORK, ACCEPTED REQUEST AND REJECTED REQUEST HAVE BEEN ANALYZED BY USING THE PROPOSED ALGORITHMS.
