Abstract: quotObjectives: To study the socio economic status and cultural characteristics of women newlineresiding at urban slums of Mysore city. To assess the morbidity, mortality patterns of newlinewomen in urban slums. To analyze the existing situation of slums in Mysore city, To newlineexplore the ground realities about the health status of women in slums. newlineResearch Methodology: The present work is a descriptive study designed to newlineexamine the perceived and actual health status and health practices of women aged newline18 years and above during the period January 2014 to December 2015 A cross newlinesectional descriptive study carried out on 653 women of slum dwellers of Mysore. newlineInformation was obtained by interviewing the study participants. Interview schedule is newlineemployed to gather the data required for the study. A modified NFHS-3 schedule will newlinebe utilized for the collection of information. The schedule comprises of question newlinerelated to respondents Socio demographic characteristics, Reproduction, Marriage and newlineCohabitation, Contraception, Contacts with a health personnel, Nutrition and utilization newlineof ICDS services. newlineResults: Out of 653 subjects in the study majority 221(33.1%) belongs to age group newline25-34years and least 25(3.8%) belong to age group 65 and above .Around 48% had newlineany morbidity with 95% CI of 44-51.8, 5.7% have menstrual morbidities, and with newline9.5% and 7% of smoking and alcohol use respectively. newlineConclusion: The situation with respect to women s health in the urban slums is newlineneglected the most as discussed and also found that these women seek treatment newlineonly when their health problem health. Such a scenario therefore solicits the attention of policy makers and program newlinemanagers to address women s health needs on an urgent basis especially for those newlinein economically weaker section of urban areas where there is no formal public health newlineinfrastructure. Women centric focused health education among economically weaker newlinesection of communities should be encouraged. Women centric public health newlineinfrastructure should be made available for urban poor with focus on slum dwelle
