Abstract: | The present study was focused on the methanolic extract of Chromolaena odorata (L.) King and Robinson has shown antioxidant, hyperglycemic, and diabetic induced wound healing activity. It is conceivable that antioxidant / free radical scavenging nature of these extracts is one of the mechanisms associated with antidiabetic and wound healing activities. Inhibition of these enzymes (and#945;-amylase and and#945;-glucosidases) by methanolic extract of Chromolaena odorata newlinereduced the high postprandial (PP) blood glucose peaks in diabetes. Another mechanism is the presence of phytoconstituent such as flavonoid, in these selected plants extract, which is proved effective biocompound for antidiabetic activity. The other mechanism is regeneration and moderate expansion of cellular population and size of islet of Langerhans and and#946; cells by methanolic extract. This extract enhances the faster lay down of collagen fibres and improves the antioxidant status in the wound of diabetic animals. Thus, this study proves significant various newlinemedicinal properties of Chromolaena odorata leaves. However, it will be interesting to isolate the compounds responsible for antidiabetic, antioxidant, wound healing activities and to elucidate their mechanisms of action. newline |
