The design and implementation of intelligent control systems has become necessary for many applications in recent years. The development of an effective methodology for the design of such control systems certainly requires the synthesis of many concepts from artificial intelligence. A promising direction in the design of intelligent systems involves the use of Fuzzy logic control to discover the abilities of intelligent control systems in utilizing experience via rule-based knowledge. The most commonly used controller in the industry field is the proportional plus integral plus derivative (PID) controller, which requires a mathematical model of the system. Fuzzy logic controller (FLC) provides an alternative solution to PID controller, especially when the available system models are inexact or unavailable. Hence the investigations on the Performance of Wound Rotor Induction Motor (WRIM) controlled by both stator and rotor side control using Fuzzy Logic Controller with closed loop operation have been considered. In this thesis the comparative analysis of the performance of the controllers are presented. The Fuzzy / PID controller has been used for closed loop operation and the performances of proposed WRIM have been estimated. This system has two Fuzzy logic controllers, one in stator side and other in rotor side. Double side control leads to a more effective control design objectives such as steady state and transient characteristics of the closed loop system. If the conventional controllers are used, the performance may depreciate. Fuzzy logic controller is integrated to overcome the problems with uncertainties in the machine parameters more effectively. Induction motors are characterized by complex, highly nonlinear and time varying dynamics. The advent of vector control techniques has partially solved induction motor control problems. Also, they are sensitive to drive parameter variations such as the rotor time constant and an incorrect flux measurement or estimation at low speeds.en_US
