Abstract: Willingdon Watershed of south Arcot Vallalar District was chosen for the present work. The main emphasis of the study is on employment generation through Watershed planning. The Willingdon Watershed is one of the basin of Vellar river. It is located roughly 100 kilometres west of the District head quarter Cuddalore and 100 kilometres North of Cauvery basin. newline newlineThe main objectives of the study are: (1) To identify the planning units of Willingdon Watershed and bring out its profile, (2) To assess the distribution of basic resources found in the Willingdon Watershed and evaluate their resource potential in terms of its employment opportunities, (3) To study the ongoing development projects in the given Watershed and the existing employment structure and (4) To suggest a model plan for employment generation in Willingdon Watershed. To fulfil the above objectives, both primary and secondary data were collected using separate proforma. The data were collected from various government reports, documents, journals and books. 240 respondents were contacted in six villages in order to asses the levels of employment, job opportunities and socio economic condition. newlineThe sample villages were selected by using nearest neighbor technique and random numbers. Out of 58 villages 6 villages were chosen and among these villages 10 per cent households were interviewed. The collected information were presented in the form of tables. Using quantitative model developed by Sathyapaul, the pattern of employment, unemployment and underemployment were estimated. The study is limited to Willingdon watershed in order to derive findings and conclusion. newlineThere were seven chapters. The first chapter describes perspectives of Watershed at different level followed by objectives, methodology and review of literature in the second chapter. The third chapter highlights the profile of the various Watersheds in Vellar Basin with special emphasis on Willingdon Watershed.
