Abstract: Punna¿¿eri Kalari was the first Gurukula which marked the beginning of Sanskrit education in Kerala It was established in 1889 by the great scholar Punna¿¿eri Nambi Neelakantha Sarma at Perumudiy£r village Pattambi It was the first education centre in Kerala where Sanskrit was taught to all students without any discrimination of cast and religion Punna¿¿eri Nambi expressed his disagreement to those who showed discrimination in imparting knowledge He said that teaching is a Yajand#956;a and for that the teacher does not have observe Pula So pupil who learn Sanskrit and teachers who teach Sanskrit and did not have to observe any kind of discrimination newline
