Abstract: | A drive is a technology that controls a motor s speed according to newlineits load requirements. The basic components of a solid state electric drive newlinesystem are power source, power electronic converter, electric motor, newlinemechanical load and controller. In an electric motor, while controlling the newlinespeed, energy can be conserved by using drive control instead of conventional newlinecontrol. There are some existing methods such as optimal field control, newlineenergy saving v/f control and fault identification, to conserve energy in ac and newlinedc drives. In addition to the above techniques, energy can be conserved by newlineimplementing different control techniques, by reducing the power newlineconsumption of power electronic converter and also by avoiding the motor newlineoperation under fault condition. In this research work, different energy conservation techniques are newlinefound for ac and dc motor drives such as separately excited dc motor drive, newlinesingle phase capacitor run induction motor drive and three phase squirrel cage newlineinduction motor drive. All the proposed energy conservation techniques are newlinesimulated using Matlab Simulink or by running Matlab program. Practical newlineimplementation and verification is also done for some of the energy newlineconservation techniques. |
