Abstract: | newline ABSTRACT newlinePectin-Cerium (IV) iodate (Pc-CeI) a composite ion exchange material has been synthesized by mixing 0.2g Pectin (in 10 ml H2O), 0.1M potassium iodate (KIO3) in 100 ml and 0.1M Ammonium ceric nitrate (NH4)2Ce (NO3)6 in 100 ml water with constant stirring at pH 0-1. The ion exchange capacity of the hybrid material was improved from 0.92 1.80 meq/g in comparison to its inorganic counterpart. Distribution coefficient, thermal stability and pH titrations of hybrid ion exchanger have been studied. The material was characterized on the basis of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Thermo Gravimetric Analysis (TGA) and Scanning electron microscopy (SEM).The distribution coefficient has showed that the selectivity of exchanger for different metal ions was in order As (II) gt Ca (II) gt Ni (II) gt Zn (II) gt Mg (II). Based on the value of distribution coefficient ion exchange material has been used for separation and removal of different metal ions from water samples.
