Abstract: The developments in Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) attract the interest of researchers because it is widely used technology. The deployment of IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN network having various research issues like Load Balancing, Channel Assignment and WLAN Antenna Design. For enhanced performance the environment of WLAN service needs a design of network which provides balanced load of users, low channel interference and enhanced coverage within the area of service. In this thesis, the work focuses on the Load Balancing, Channel Assignment and Antenna design to enhance the WLAN performance. newlineIn this thesis, a load balancing algorithm is proposed to minimize the user congestion of WLAN. The algorithm balances the network load of WLAN by assessing the parameters of each access point (AP) and whenever a station enters, moves and leaves from the network the load balancing server executes this algorithm. Load balancing algorithm, distributes the load between available access points with taking the network load into account. newlineThe Channel assignment algorithm is designed to increase the WLAN channel utilization. Proposed channel assignment algorithm enhances the WLAN network performance in terms of delay, data dropped, retransmission attempts and throughput. The performance of proposed algorithm is compared with other channel assignments schemes CCA, NCA, RCA for optimal channel assignment to enhance network performance. Further, the proposed algorithm is capable of managing the WLAN channels and gives the better channel utilization. newlineThe results of load balancing and channel assignment algorithms are obtained and validated using Riverbed Modeler Simulator Software. The simulation result of Riverbed Modeler simulator approves that the designed algorithms enhances of the performance of wireless local area network (WLAN). newlineIn this work, a novel design of Microstrip Fractal Antenna is proposed for WLAN. The fractal antenna is designed and fabricated using the geometry of X shape slots of different dimensions.
