Comparative estimation of antimicrobial activity of leaves of Moringa oleifera against bacterial isolates

Abstract

Moringa oleifera, usually mentioned in literature as Moringa, is a natural as well as cultivated variety of the genus Moringa belonging to family Moringaceae. Different extracts of plant leaves shows antibiotic property against wide range of pathogens like Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Salmonella typhimurium. Ethyl acetate showed strong and superior antibacterial activity against all the four bacteria except E. coli. So this plant extracts having good healing properties without side effects when compared with antibiotics. The consequences of this investigation suggest that the leaves extract of M. oleifera can be used to discover antibacterial agent for developing new pharmaceuticals to control studied human pathogenic bacteria responsible for severe illness.
