Abstract: Evidences shown that physical inactivity is an independent factor in triggering the epidemic of Type-2 diabetes.96,97 Another study reveals that the prevalence of diabetes was more than twice as high in those graded as sendentary or undertaking light activity as in those classified as performing moderate or heavy exercise.98 newline Insulin resistance syndrome has been described as a cluster of risk factors for cardiovascular disease contributing to the development of hypertension, dyslipidaemia, obesity and atherosclerosis.99,100 Insulin resistance worsens with small increments in weight and also with lack of physical activity, an outcome of modern living. It is a characteristic feature of Asian Indians despite low BMI.101-103 newline Metabolic syndrome is a combination of medical disorders that increase the risk of developing cardiovascular disease and diabetes.104 Currently there are two major definitions for metabolic syndrome provided by the International Diabetes Federation (IDF) and the revised National Cholesterol Education Programme (NCEP) respectively. newline newline
