Abstract: Black gram is largely used to make dal from the whole or split dehusked seeds. The bean is boiled and eaten whole or after splitting into dal; prepared in this way it has an unusual mucilaginous texture. Ground into flour or paste; it is also extensively used in preparation like dosa, idli, vada and papad. It is very nutritious and is recommended for diabetics like other pulses. newlineThough several resistant / tolerant varieties are being developed by research institutions, the spread of such varieties in the farmer s field is very limited. So cheaper and effective pesticides to combat the pest in pulses need to be developed. Hence, in the present study an attempt has been made to extract natural pesticidal compounds from P.pinnata by using organic solvent to control M.incognita in vivo. P.pinnata which belongs to Fabaceae family is one such potential plant. Antifeedent activities of various extracts of P.pinnata were observed against insect pest of different crops (Verma and Singh, 1985). Ayurvedic medicine describe the root and bark of P.pinnata as anthelmintic and anti inflammatory. Aquaous extracts of stem and bark exhibit significant CNS sedative and antipyretic activity (Pillai and Vijayamma, 1988). Pongamia oil has high content of triglycerides and flavnoids constituents, pongamin and karanjin. The oil showed inhibitory effects on various microbes (Chaurasia and Jain, 1978) and possess anthelmintic properties (Warrier et al., 1995) and it is also known to possess repellent activity for insect pest (Khaire et al., 1993). newline newline
