Abstract: | In the era of competitive, unstable and dynamic environment, the tasks of the employees of Indian banks has become demanding. This is also due to the fact with opening up of economy through globalization, liberalization and privatization and the natural drift towards information technology, challenges get multiplied when one has to work in a diversified working climate. Organizations need people who have both technical knowledge and emotional and social abilities which will facilitate them to delight the customers. The emotional intelligence interventions are partly a response to the problems that employees in corporate sector face today. Emotional intelligence competences can contribute in developing these abilities and skills that are linked with this desire or aspiration. newlineThe present study aims to assess the impact of Emotional intelligence and its impact on workplace behavior in the Indian banking industry further comparing this impact between the employees working in private and public sector banks. For this purpose 3 banks were considered from public sector banks Canara, PNB, and SBI and 3 banks from private sector ICICI, Yes, Axis. Along with the above research problem, it was also computed that does emotional intelligence enhances organizational commitment of the employees. newlineGoleman s 1995 emotional intelligence framework containing personal and social competence was considered to assess the impact of emotional intelligence variables on workplace behavior attributes which also helped in finding out the relationship between emotional intelligence and organizational commitment along with whether working conditions have a significant impact on emotional intelligence of the employees working in the different banks. newlineIt was found that private sector bank employees were more affected by the emotional intelligence attributes and hence a change in their work attitudes. This depicts that individual with high emotional intelligence leads to a positive workplace behavior in employees |
