Abstract: Studies of solute solvent interactions in electrolytic solutions have been the subject of newlineactive interest. The inference regarding the interactions is generally derived from newlinethermodynamic and transport properties like partial molar volume, viscosity and newlineconductance studies. Since the partial molar volume and viscometric methods are known newlineto give valuable information regarding solute solvent, solute solute as well as solvent newlinesolvent interactions, therefore studies on partial molar volume and viscosity of ionic newlinesolutions are of great help in characterizing the structure and properties of the solutions. newlineThese thermodynamic investigations play an important role in understanding type and newlineextent of the pattern of molecular associations that exist in liquid mixtures and their newlinesensitivities of variations in compositions, temperature, pressure and chemical nature. newlineThe transport properties are fascinating studies in themselves because their industrial and newlinepractical values lie in the way they control important reaction rates. These transport newlineproperties are very useful for the study of ionic salvation. These properties can give newlineinformation on the effective size of a moving particle in solution. These properties are newlinesensitive to strong ion solvent interactions, which increase the effective size of the ions, newlineand also to any modification in the structure of solvents. newlineThe present work has been carried out with some divalent transition metal chlorides namely newlinemanganese chloride, cobalt chloride, nickel chloride, copper chloride, cadmium chloride newlineand magnesium chloride in water and binary aqueous mixtures of alcohols (methanol and newlineethanol) in five different compositions viz; 5,10,15,20 and 35 wt% of alcohols. newlinePartial molar volumes of above mentioned divalent transition metal chlorides have been newlinedetermined in water and in binary aqueous mixtures of methanol and ethanol at one newlinetemperature with the help of density measurements. Effect of temperature on the partial newlinemolar volumes was also analysed in 5% (w/w) methanol + water
