dc.description.abstractThis thesis presents the real time study of an analysis and performance evaluation of Distributed Generation (DG) in emerging power system. DG also called as site generation, dispersed generation, embedded generation, decentralized generation, decentralized energy or distributed energy, generates electricity from the many small energy sources. As the yearly electric energy demand grows, there is a significant increase in the penetration of DG to fulfill this increase in demand. Interconnecting DG to an existing distribution system provides various benefits to several entities as for example the owner, utility and the final user. DG provides an enhanced power quality, higher reliability of the distribution system and can peak shaves and fill valleys. Penetration of a DG into an existing distribution system has many impacts on the system, with the power system protection being one of the major issues. In this thesis, the effect of DG penetration on has been analyzed in a distribution system with gas turbine generators. Different cases have been studied. Location and technology of the DG sources are changed to study the effect that these changes may have on the coordination of protective bi-directional relays i.e. static relays. newlineThe aim of this work is to improve the power quality of Distribution system using DG. The power system utilities are increasing every day, to enhance the distribution power quality and maintain the voltage stability is a challenging task in the complex distribution the electrical power quality is more concerned issue. The main problems are stationery and transient distortions in the line voltage such as harmonics, flicker, swells, sags and voltage asymmetries. In recent years, micro electric power systems such as photovoltaic generation systems, wind generators and micro gas turbines, etc., have increased with the deregulation and liberalization of the power market.
