Abstract: | A comparative case control study was being carried out for the urban population of Bangalore. Which helps in understanding the importance of testing of this liver enzyme in assessing the level of oxidative stress among the diabetic population and advise the patients in preventing further deterioration of health conditions. In addition, GGT can be considered a biomarker for oxidative stress associated with glutathione regulation and degradation and possibly a proatherogenic marker because of its indirect relationship in the biochemical steps leading to low-density lipoprotein oxidation. newlineHigher lipoprotein (a) concentrations are associated with premature coronary heart diseases; persons with diabetes and high lipoprotein (a) level appear to be at increased risk of asymptomatic coronary disease. newlineHigher mean of Lp(a) were observed in patients than controls and difference was statistically significant(plt0.01). Our study is in agreement with earlier studies. Hence our study helps in understanding the importance of testing lipoprotein (a) in assessing the level of atherogenisis among the diabetic population and to advise the patients in preventing further deterioration of health conditions. |
