dc.description.abstract | The purpose of this study was to identify relationships between emotional intelligence (EI) and occupational success in a sample population of Indian professionals. This study used an online survey to measure occupational success and an online test to measure emotional intelligence among a sample. Occupational success was measured on an individual s assessment of his or her own success given the subjective nature of success. To measure emotional intelligence this study used the Hay Group s situation based EQ test. Most of the research in the field of Emotional Intelligence has been primarily focused upon the western society. There is some quality research in this field in India; however it is quite limited in nature. This study asked: If there is any relationship between emotional intelligence and occupational success? If some of emotional intelligence competencies can be predictor of occupational success? What are the various competencies of emotional intelligences which play most important role in occupational success? It was found that the there are seven emotional intelligence competencies which proved to be predictor of success. These emotional intelligence competencies have been analyzed and discussed in detail in subsequent chapters of this dissertation. This study demonstrates the need for further research into the relationship between occupational success and emotional intelligence. This study has been important since it has been one of the very few studies to examine role/impact of emotional intelligence on occupational success among the sample of selected Indian professionals. | en_US |
