Abstract: The objective of the present work is isolation of bioactive compounds and newlinePharmacological studies of the plant Prosopis cineraria Linn belongs to the family newlineMimosaceae. The stem bark for this study was collected from Cuddalore district and newlineauthenticated at Botanical Survey of India, TNAU campus, Coimbatore, Tamilnadu newlineand by Department of Botany, Acharya Nagarjuna University, Guntur, Andrapradesh, newlineIndia. The Microscopical evaluation of the stem bark and the Powder was carried in newlineorder to confirm the identity of the plant species. newlineThe coarse powder was extracted with four different solvents namely newlinePetroleum ether, Chloroform, Methanol and Water based on the polarity. The newlinephytochemical screening of the different extracts showed positive result for the newlinepresence of Alkaloids, Carbohydrates, Glycosides, Phytosterols, Tannins, Saponins, newlinePhenols, Protein and Amino acids, Gums and Mucilages. newlineThe Methanol and Aqueous extracts of the stem bark of Prosopis cineraria newlineLinn exhibited moderate antibacterial activity with all the tested strains of newlinemicroo newlineCiprofloxacin 100 and#956;g/ml. This may be due to the presence of flavonoids and tannins newlinein the extracts. The anthelmintic activity of methanol extract at dose of 160 mg/ml newlineshowed significant anthelmintic activity which was comparable with that of standard newlinepiperazine citrate. newlineThe Methanol extract of Prosopis cineraria Linn showed significant newlineprevention of PTZ as well as MES induced seizures methods. The Methanol extract of newlinestem bark of Prosopis cineraria Linn the IC50 value was compared with Ascorbic acid newlineas standard. IC50 Value 340 and#956;g/ml for standard and 430 and#956;g/ml for test by Nitric acid newlinescavenging method and IC50 Value 450 and#956;g/ml for Standard and 25 and#956;g/ml for test by newlineDPPH Method. The Methanol extract of stem bark of Prosopis cineraria Linn showed newlinesignificant in-vitro antioxidant activity and at the dose of 400 mg/kg p.o decreased in newlinethe level of serum markers, indicating that protection of hepatic cells when compared newlineto standard drug Silymarin 50 mg/kg p.o.
