dc.description.abstract | The NGOs are playing very vital role in the field of development and empowerment of newlinethe poor. However, NGOs are changing their methods, perspectives and approaches of newlinework from time to time and varied from each others in their respective areas of work. newlineDuring the colonial period, many voluntary organizations came into existence under the newlineinfluence of Nationalism and Gandhi to participate in National freedom movements. newlineSince Independence, Indian NGOs shifted their perspectives from development to newlinewelfare, welfare to participatory method and participatory method to empowerment newlineappraoch.1990s onwards, NGOs adopted empowerment approach in their practices. The newlineword empowerment became so popular and buzz word in the field of corporate, social, newlineprivate, educational, governmental and Non-Governmental sectors. Since 1990s, microcredit newlineis emerged as popular programs of women empowerment and poverty alleviation newlinein the field of development and various stakeholders entered in the same field under the newlinename of women empowerment. To implement micro-credit at the grass root level, newlineInternational and National agencies took much interest in the micro-credit. IFAD, World newlineBank started to provide credit to the third countries like India, as result of the same; newlinenumbers of NGOs are increased in the same field to work on the same issues. Since newline1990s onwards, many other micro-credits led-NGOs and Micro-credit providing newlineorganizations like BASIX, SKS, SPANDANA, Asmitha, Grameen Kootta and LandT etc newlineare entered in the same field to work on the same issue. These micro-credit provider newlineorganizations had developed network at different levels for the same. With the support of newlinedifferent funding agencies, many local NGOs came forward to work in this field under newlinethe name of empowerment. Thus, there is need to explore their interlinkages, emerging newlinepattern, field situations and assess the role of NGOs in empowerment of the women.
