Abstract: As mobile computing has become a reality, new technologies and protocols have been developed to provide mobile users the services that already exist for non-mobile users. Mobile IPv6 is one of those technologies that enable a node to change its point of attachment to the Internet in a manner that is transparent to the application on top of the protocol stack. In other words, it transparently provides mobility for Mobile Nodes (MNs) by using the Home Agents (HAs) and the Care-of-Addresses. This research work focuses on these two challenges and provides the reliability and security by using interlink Home Agent Redundancy scheme (HAHA) and self-certified keys. The Virtual homelink based interlink Home Agent Redundancy Protocol (VHAHA) has been developed in this research work as a secure and fault-tolerant framework to ensure the desired level of security and reliability in Mobile IPv6 based networks. The performance analysis shows that the VHAHA outperforms other reliability mechanisms at the same time ensures confidentiality, authentication, integrity, location anonymity and synchronization. The simulation results show that there is no service interruption in VHAHA due to the homelink failures. The use of self-certified keys reduces the computation delay by 50%. The VHAHA reduces the recovery overhead by 63.1% and the packet loss is only 0.2 0.4%. But VHAHA increases the registration delay by 1.5 2%. Actually, this is not a fair constraint because bandwidth of the network is very high thanks to the high speed and advanced networks. The performance of VHAHA is directly proportional to the speed of the wired backbone. Further, the VHAHA does not increase the signaling traffic over the air interface. The advantages of VHAHA are reliable Mobile IPv6 operations, better survivability, transparent failure detection and recovery, reduced complexity of the system and workload, secure data transfer and improved overall performance. newline newline newline
