Abstract: | A mobile ad hoc network (MANET) is an infrastructureless network that consists of a collection of wireless mobile nodes to form a temporary network without the aid of any centralized administration or standard support services. Flooding ensures the full coverage of all the network, that is, the broadcast packet is guaranteed to be sent to every node in the network, providing the network is static and connected and the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer of the communication channel is error-free during the broadcast process. In this research finding, a reliable and efficient broadcasting algorithm in asymmetric MANETs is proposed using minimized forward node list algorithm to provide reliability and to reduce the number of forwarding nodes. The retransmissions of the forwarding nodes are overheard by the sender as the Acknowledgement (ACK) of the reception of the packet. The non-forwarding 1-hop neighbors of the sender only explicitly acknowledge the receipt of the packet. In this research finding, a reliable and efficient algorithm for broadcasting in Asymmetric Mobile Ad hoc networks where nodes have different transmission ranges is proposed using minimized forward node list algorithm which guarantees the following properties of broadcasting in MANETs: Minimized forwarding ratio: the fraction of the total number of nodes in the network that at least retransmit broadcast packets once for one broadcast operation. Maximized delivery ratio: ratio of the number of nodes that receives packets to the number of the nodes in the network for one broadcasting operation. Less overhead: ratio of the total transmissions, including the broadcast packets and extra control packets such as HELLO and ACK messages, to the broadcast packets per broadcast byte per node. Minimized delay: period from the time the source broadcast the packets to the time the last node receives the packet. newline newline newline |
