Abstract: Wireless mobile communication technology is improved to provide data services with better quality. Mobile devices are well equipped with improved data processing capability and increased storage capacity. This thesis proposes a framework for concurrent transaction management in General Packet Radio Service / Universal Mobile Telecommunications System based mobile data networks. The proposed framework ensures Predicted Life Period (PLP) supported logical timestamp ordering based concurrency control, PLP based cache consistency preservation technique, Affiliated Transaction Count (ATC) / Dependent Transaction List (DTL) based cache replacement policy and log based recovery of failed transactions. Transactions are run in Mobile Hosts (MHs). The proposed framework has the cache loaded in the Base Station (BS). Cache Manager (CM) is loaded in the BS to co-ordinate access to the shared public data item. In the proposed PLP based cache consistency preservation technique, the CM immediately updates the data item locally, when the MH makes update request on the data item. It generates an invalid indication and forwards it to all connected BSs that have caches stored in it. The CM broadcasts the invalid indication to all dependent transactions, only if the ATC ratio is high. The broadcast of invalid indication avoids transaction processing with stale data. From the analysis, it is found that the PLP based concurrency control and cache consistency management technique supports highly dynamic transaction execution. The proposed framework for transaction execution ensures concurrent transaction execution with controlled concurrency, reduced transaction restarts , effective cache replacement and failure recovery with recovery guarantees. newline newline newline
