Abstract: Phenolic compounds are the most toxic contaminants originated newlinewidely from various industrial processes such as refineries petrochemicals newlinetextiles coking operations coal processing pharmaceutical dyes insecticide newlinefungicide pesticide pulp and paper industries Phenol and particularly newlinechlorophenols are highly toxic even at low concentrations potentially newlinecarcinogenic endocrine disruptive and their exposure to large area of skin newlinecauses fatal poisoning They also affect the taste and odour of drinking water newlinewith concentrations as low as a 0001 ppm US EPA and European Union newlinehave listed phenolic compounds as high priority pollutants with a discharge newlinelimit of less than 1 ppm in the treated effluent However several industrial newlineeffluents contain phenols concentration up to 6500 ppm newline newline
