dc.description.abstract | Nanomaterials and nanotechnology attracted several researchers working in the field newlineof solid state lighting, display devices and dosimetry. Due to the nanometer scale, the newlinephysical properties were highly altered by the presence of significant number of newlinesurface atoms, quantum confinement, electronic states etc. Rare earth [RE] ions were newlineestablished much attention due to their distinct electronic and optical characteristics newlinearising from their 4f electrons. When rare earth ions introduced into the suitable host, newlinean efficient luminescent phosphors with high quantum yield, narrow bandwidth, large newlinestokes shifts, converting unusable UV to useful visible light is obtained. In particular, newlinethe rare earth doped luminescent materials attracted extensive attention due to the newlinerising interests of the lighting industry, display devices and dosimetry. newline | |
