Abstract: The thesis entitled Development of Novel Methods for the Synthesis of newlineBiologically Active Heterocycles has been divided into five chapters. newlineThe knowing all aspects and importance of bioactive heterocycles, we have newlineinvestigated new methods for the synthesis of some bioactive heterocycles using ionic newlineliquid as green catalyst. First chapter describes synthesis of quinoline based Nheterocycles. newlineIt is further subdivided into two sections; section 1.1 gives details about newlinethe synthesis of quinoline derivatives. Section 1.2 describes the synthesis of newlinesubstituted hexahydroquinolines. newlineThe second chapter deals with the synthesis of bio-active N-heterocycles based newlineon quinazoline skeleton and are divided into three sections. Section 2.1 deals with the newlinesynthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinazolin-4(1H)-ones, section 2.2 describes the synthesis of newlinemethylquinazoline derivatives and section 2.3 deals with the synthesis of newlinethioxoquinazolinone. The third chapter describes the synthesis of indole derivatives newlinewhich is subdivided in to three sections. In section 3.1 synthesis of 2- newlinecyclohexylamino-6,7-dihydro-1H-indol-4-ones is studied, section 3.2 describes 3- newlinealkylated indole derivatives and section 3.3 gives details in synthesis of 3- newlineaminoalkylated indole derivatives. The synthesis of dihydropyrimido[4,5- newlineb]quinilinetriones and polyhydro-quinoline-3-carboxylates are studied in chapter 4. newlineSection 4.1 deals with the synthesis of dihydropyrimido[4,5-b]quinilinetriones and newlinesection 4.2 give details for the synthesis of polyhydro-quinoline-3-carboxylates. newlineChapter 5 describes the pharmacological evaluation i.e. anticancer activity of all newlinesynthesized bioactive heterocycles. newlineAbstract newlineiv newlineChapter 1: Synthesis of Quinoline Based Heterocycles newlineThis chapter describes the synthesis of quinoline based heterocycles. newlineSection 1.1: Synthesis of Quinoline Derivatives newlineQuinoline derivatives have been well known not only in medicinal chemistry, newlinedue to their broad occurrence in drugs and natural products, but also polymer newlinechemistry and optoelectronics for their
