Abstract

Bihar the heartland of India has occupied a prominent place in the history of the nation and even the history of the world. Bihar has a long tradition of fighting against the British rule. The movement of 1857-58, which gave a big challenge to the Company Raj in India was very popular was anti-British movement had its root deeply embedded into the soil of Bihar and Patna was the centre of the activities of the Wahabis. The National Movement is unique phenomenon of modern India. Its origins go back to the discontent generated by the economic, political and administrative policies of the colonial government in India. Bihar has a very glorious part at every stage of human development Bihar contributed a lot to the making of the Indian culture. The same is true of the Bihar s share in the freedom struggle. During the various phase phases of India s freedom struggle the people of Bihar gave a spontaneous and splendid response to the country s call for liberty. Scholars have started taking a keen interest in the study of Bihar s contribution to India s struggle for freedom. But any study of the freedom movement would remain incomplete without the study of the Muslim s contributions to the struggle for freedom in Bihar, because at no stage the Muslims of Bihar did lag behind the other communities in contributing their share to the struggle for freedom. By the year 1912 the Muslims of Bihar became a formidable force in the political life of the province. Despite the efforts of some Muslims leaders to prevent congress, a large number of the Muslims of Bihar joined the mainstream of the national movement. The most important phase in the history of national movement starts with entry of Mahatma Gandhi into the national politics. newlineThe present research work has been intended to evaluate and examine the contribution of the Muslims of Bihar during the national movement of India from 1912 to 1940. During this period of evaluation the Muslims of Bihar had played a distinguished role in the liberation movement of India.
