Abstract: | The aim of the study was to develop and evaluate a natural emulsifier from plant parts. The present study reveals that Shorea robusta - gum resin has shown good emulsifying property. To characterize further the emulsifier characterization it was subjected for column chromatography by using different polarity combination with n-hexane and chloroform. All the fractions were analyzed GC and GCMS analysis and found long chain fatty alcohols and fatty hydro carbons masses were confirmed by NIST library. The FTIR spectrum also confirms the same. The studies suggested that 2.0% to 4.0% of semi-purified Shorea robust gum resin is sufficient to form stable o/w type of emulsions and emulsion properties are also comparable with synthetic emulsifier (Glyceryl mono stearate self emulsifier). The prepared emulsions were subjected for globule size, centrifugal test, thermal stability, Zeta potential, creaming power and Rheologial evaluation. Finally the natural emulsifier tested for toxicology profile by using NRU assay and found CTC 50 value is gt1000and#956;g/ml, was observed which is very safe for topical application. In similar fashion Glycine max - seed, Betula utilizes - bark, Camellia sinensis leafs and Diospyrus lotus Fruit have studied for emulsifying properties. Diospyrus lotus - fruit and Betua utilies - bark are shown emulsifying properties. Others are very poor to form strong stable emulsions. newline |
