The thesis entitled Complex formation studies of metal ions with electron rich species is comprised of five chapters. newlineThe first chapter describes a general introduction of the subject matter. The very relevant matters include:and#61472; and#61472;a brief discussion of complexation of different complexing agents with metals. and#61472;utility of coloured complexes in developing new newlinespectrophotometric methods for determination of metal ions. newline and#61472;a brief discuss of metal ions of interest. and#61472;a brief introduction of solid phase extraction. and#61472;different types of solid phases for preconcentration of metal ions. and#61472;a list of references taken from the worldand#700;s leading scientific journals in the field. Chapter II describes a spectrophotometric method has been described for the quantitative analysis of uranyl ion in soil samples. The method is based on the chelation of uranyl ion with piroxicam to produce a yellow coloured complex in 1,4- dioxane-water medium at room temperature which absorbs maximally at 390 nm. Beer s law is obeyed in the concentration range of 6.75 × 10-2 9.45 × 10-1 µg mL-1 with apparent molar absorptivity and Sandell s sensitivity of 4.114 × 105 L mol-1cm-1 and 0.00066 and#61549;g/cm2/ 0.001 absorbance unit, respectively.en_US
