Abstract: | The thesis entitled An Enquiry into the Management Practices followed in Rubber Estates in India. The broad objective of the study is to find out the management practices followed in the rubber estates in India. The sample selected for the study has been drawn from among the estates belonging to limited companies from India and outside India. The study had been conducted mainly on the basis of interviews carried out with the managers, managing directors or other senior executives of the estates and companies. For that purpose a detailed questionnaire was designed. The data collected related to the year 1974-75. The study showed that most of the area planted with unselected seedlings (low yielding material) was more in the Indian estates than in the non-Indian estates. It states that there was clear structure with different departments in large estates belonging to both Indian and non-Indian group of companies. It reveals that there is considerable deficiency in respect of training, both technical and managerial. The lack of an objective method of appraisal is also a deficiency noted in the majority of estates. A number of work study techniques and modern concepts of direction can be employed in plantations with a view to improving the productivity of workers is suggested as a remedial measure. |
