Abstract: The Thousand Faces of Night (1992) is Githa Hariharan`s maiden novel for newlinewhich she was awarded the Commonwealth Writers` Prize and with this award she newlinehas marked her indelible presence in the realm of Indian English Fiction. She while newlineportraying the lives of three different generations of Indian women dextrously newlineinterweaves the stories of these women with the stories of some of the prominent newlinewomen of Indian mythology, re-structuring and re-shaping ancient mythical stories, newlineprojecting them in contemporary perspective. She pours out her heart for those poor newlinewomen who are still struggling to come to terms with their own destiny by newlinedemanding a life of equality and liberty in a male dominated society. newline
