Abstract: Typhoid fever is a life-threatening febrile illness caused by the bacterium Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi habitually acquired through the ingestion of food or water that has been contaminated by faeces of an infected person EpidemiologyAccording to World Health Organisation most recent estimates published in 2014 approximately 21 million cases and 2 22000 typhoid deaths were found to be reported annually throughout the world The disease is most common in developing countries like India and children are most commonly affected due to the risk factors such as poor hygiene and poor sanitation The disease rate was decreased in the developed countries in the 1940s as a result of improved treatment and sanitation conditions Annually in the United States about 300 to 400 cases were reported and the disease is expected to occur in about 6000 people per year The rate of death may be as high as 25 percentage without treatment while with treatment it is between 1 to 4 percentageThe onset of illness with fatigue and a fever that increases daily from lowgrade to as high as 104 degree F 40 degree C with headache malaise anorexia abdominal pain and diarrhea or constipation are common newline
