dc.description.abstractThe silk Industry, one of the productive cottage sectors in India newlineis developing rapidly and lucratively over the past years. newlinePre-cocoon and post-cocoon are the two major areas in the silk newlineindustry. newlineThe pre-cocoon sector, called farm or sericulture sector, is newlineconnected with larval stage to cocoon production stage. The postcocoon newlineprocess involves reeling, twisting, dyeing, designing, weaving newlineand trading, which help in the production of silk apparel. These newlineprocesses occur gradually for the production of silk fabrics. Finally, newlinethe finished product is made available the traders for sale. newlineConsidering the industry as a whole, the entire process of silk newlinemanufacturing is profitable. However, as far as individual sector is newlineconcerned, several constraints are involved. For instance, it is found newlinethat the silk reeling and dyeing entrepreneurs face several problems newlinestarting from purchase of cocoons to dyeing of yarn. newlineThe present investigations were carried out to find some newlinesolutions for the financial and environmental related obstacles, in the newlinesilk reeling and dyeing sectors of silk industry in Andhra Pradesh, newlinethrough renewable solar thermal energy. newlineThe main objective of the study was to find solutions for effluent newlinetreatment and for drying the chrysalises (silkworm pupae) through newlinesolar energy. Further, it was to verify the relevance, effectiveness, and newlineefficiency of the solar system for the silk reeling and dyeing sectors, newlineviii newlinebesides identifying constraints/bottlenecks and inherent problems newlineduring implementation. This study also had to assess the actual newlinebenefits accrued to the beneficiaries in the silk industry and to newlineprovide an idea whether the intended Non-Conventional approach will newlinebe beneficial. newlineThe study was divided into four sections. newlineThe first section is related with cocoon stifling and silk yarn newlinedrying. In conventional methods, significant consumption of electricity newlineis essential for cocoon stifling and 30% to 40% steam for yarn drying. newlineTo come out from these obstacles, appropriate proposes with newlinenecessary illustrationsen_US
