The present has attempted to characterize the miR165a and their target member REV from Brassica species and elucidate the biological role of miR165a in Brassica juncea with special reference to plant development. BLASTN analysis of miR165a and REV identified the homologs in Brassica genomesMiR165a is differentially expressed spatially and temporally in Brassica species. Expression analysis revealed high level of miR165a transcript in SAM followed by bud, flower and young siliqua while mature leaves have very low expression. Patterning of leaf into upper (adaxial) and lower (abaxial) side is regulated by complex regulatory network. It has been revealed that a signal from the meristem is required for the specification of leaf surfaces. Thus highest expression of miR165a in apical tissue provides convincing evidence about its role in leaf patterning in Brassica. Abundant expression of miR165a in bud, flower and siliqua indicates its role in flower development. Sequence analysis revealed length polymorphism in the precursor sequence of miR165a within the Brassica species.en_US
