Abstract: The present study is an attempt to examine the fictional worlds of both the creative newlinewriters: William Faulkner s Yoknapatawpha and R. K. Narayan s Malgudi. It aims to newlineshow how these fictional worlds have been universalized with the help of their authors newlinerespective world views and narrative techniques. Research methods adopted in the main newlineare descriptive, exploratory, and analytical. Historical and comparative methods are also newlineused, whenever and wherever necessary, in keeping with the demands of the texts. This newlineresearch work is divided into five chapters. newlineChapter one includes an introduction to the study, its aims and objectives, newlinesignificance, scope and limitations, methodology and research design adopted. It also newlinestates brief biographical notes on the two novelists William Faulkner and R. K. newlineNarayan. It spells out the outlines of the subsequent chapters. newlineChapter two provides a theoretical background for the study. This chapter starts newlinewith a general introduction about the narrative theory and the other theories that proceed newlineand lead on to the proposed theory of fictional world, the crux of the research work newlineundertaken. The fictional world theory is based on the idea that views the fictional world newlineof a narrative fiction as a separate reality free from mimetic representation of actuality. newlineThe fictional world of a narrative fiction is constructed by using a wide range of newlinetechniques, procedures and methodologies adopted for the purpose in words. Therefore, newlinethe task of the reader is to explore the principles and the ways of construction of a newlineparticular fictional world. newlineVI newlineChapter Three is given the title William Faulkner s Yoknapatawpha. It provides newlinean analytical view of the fictional world of Yoknapatawpha and how it is constructed or newlinere-constructed. The researcher focuses on the two novels of William Faulkner: The Sound newlineand the Fury and Absalom, Absalom!,.
