dc.description.abstractThe thesis encompasses in depth study of friction and wear behaviour of sintered bearings in tribological point of view as well as their geometrical and thermal aspect considering the tribo-behaviour of a system. Frictional characteristics of sintered bearing having plain as well as reinforced additives were studied considering process, constructional and manufacturing parameters to render it suitable to perform in sliding contact conditions. Plan of experiments based on Taguchi s technique were performed using dedicated test rig viz. Dry bearing test rig . An empirical relationship between coefficient of friction and influencing parameters was demonstrated. Wear characteristics of dry sintered bearing with and without additives under different tribological conditions were investigated. An empirical relationship between coefficient of friction and involving parameters were established. Using dimensional analysis technique, a mathematical model considering dimensionless lump parameters was developed. An optimization of parameters using single and multi-objective responses was carried out using directional sensitivity approach and grey relational analysis. Apart from parameters already discussed earlier, geometrical shape and size of bearing would have some effect on tribo- properties of these bearings. Therefore, author studied geometrical parameters as L/D ratio, h/R ratio and groove geometry on thermal aspect of the bearing relating entropy. Limiting value of Pv for industrial application of grooved bearing was suggested. Finally, the author showed a comparison of grooved and non-grooved bearing for selection of bearing performance measure. The thesis ends with conclusion and references relevant to the work done and list of papers published in this connection. newline
