dc.description.abstractAquaculture is one of the largest growing food producing sectors in newlinethe world Shrimp are the most widely consumed crustaceans and have been newlinethe main contributors to the share of India s seafood exports Shrimp culture newlineplays a significant role in global aquaculture with high economic output and newlinefarmed shrimp production has seen an almost exponential growth However newlinein the past few decades shrimp production has been seriously impacted by newlineviral as well as bacterial pandemics that have resulted in high shrimp newlinemortality and heavy economic loss Among several viral diseases plagued the aquaculture industry in the past two decades White Spot Syndrome Virus WSSV is one of the most newlinedevastating viruses affecting shrimp farming industry around the world Since newlineits emergence in 1992 this virus continues to have the greatest impact on newlineshrimp culture to date Due to its sudden appearance and high mortality much newlineresearch was focused on the early characterization of the virus and newlinedevelopment of prophylaxis Even though development of molecular and newlineimmunological techniques facilitates the early detection of the virus, the rapid newlinespread in culture system is not under control due to the non availability a newlinehighly efficient anti WSSV agent Given the global economic and newlinesociological importance of shrimp farming the development of prophylactic newlinemeasures against WSSV infection is a priority for the continued success of the newlineaquaculture industry newline newline
