Abstract: | Worldwide power transmission system is undergoing continuous change due to increase in renewable energy penetration into grid Voltage Source Converter based Multi Terminal DC VSC MTDC technology is expected to meet stringent grid codes for integrating a wide range of the anticipated renewable energy penetration VSC MTDC technology offers wide advantages for wind power evacuation. As wind power fluctuates newlinepenetration into the DC ring can be controlled to regulate frequency of AC system VSC controllers are designed to offer maximum reactive power support to overcome the Low Voltage Ride Through LVRT capability issue of the system integrated with Wind Turbine Generators Independent control of real and reactive power is the major advantage of this technology Additionally modular construction of the converters has enabled a minimum time for erection and commissioning of VSC-HVDC projects to keep in phase with new wind farm capacity additions, unlike their AC counterpart Unlike conventional Line Commuted HVDC technology VSC-MTDC system can interconnect weak buses in the grid Penetration of renewable energy into grid is mostly at remote weak buses of the grid This thesis makes an attempt to study the feasibility of VSC HVDC system embedded on a weak AC system newline newline |
