It has long been recognized that the analysis of any actual sample is often complicated newlineby interferences among sample constituents and therefore chemical separations newlinebecome mandatory. Scientists are incessantly hunting for better analytical methods newlinewhich can bestow an advantage over the existing methods. This thesis addresses an newlineattempt made to respond to the challenges faced in gravimetric analysis. newlineIt contributes to the development of new method for the gravimetric estimation of newlinenickel(II), cobalt(II) and zinc(II) using 2-mercaptobenzothiazole as a chelating agent. newlineIt includes the study of optimization of parameters for the quantitative precipitation of newlinethe analyte along with study of interference of salts of various anions and cations. It newlinealso extrapolates the usefulness of the developed method in realistic scenarios by newlineincorporating the validation of the developed methods in spiked samples and its newlineapplication to actual samples. newlineFortunately, the new methods developed in the present work required a very short newlinetime of digestion as compared to other gravimetric methods available in literature, newlinethereby providing the laboratory an opportunity to save time. Also, the application of newlinesubstoichiometric precipitation along with the use of appropriate masking agents has newlinehelped in increasing the selectivity of the developed method. newlineThe thesis thus offers an insight of a more attractive alternative to the traditional newlinegravimetric methods available for nickel(II), cobalt(II) and zinc(II). Furthermore, it newlinealso provides a solution to the problem of sequential separation and estimation of the newlineabove three allied elements when present together. newline newlineen_US
